Inter-Island Ferry Service

Reduced ferry sailings and limited recovery capacity during weather or unplanned outages means pressure on the Cook Strait network is high. This impacts the entire New Zealand transport industry - affecting any freight relying on road and ferry connections between the North and South Islands.

This may directly impact CapLink, Dangerous Goods and 2-Day Road customers.

Customers with time-sensitive, urgent, or perishable items are encouraged to consider utilise NZC standard next-day delivery, meaning your items travel via our air network (Dangerous Goods cannot travel by air, so please allow a time-buffer where possible).

Tuesday 14th July – South Island SH1 Flooding Delays Update

State Highway 1 at Kaikoura remains closed and is currently expected to reopen in the afternoon of Wednesday 15th July.

This is affecting some freight moving into and out of Christchurch from the North of the road closure, and delivery delays are expected while the road remains closed.

Thursday 9th July - Weather Conditions Challenging in the South Island

Major flooding has caused issues on a number of roads throughout the South Island.

This has resulted in linehaul delays both on the roads and also with inter-island ferries.  Ferry delays and cancelations mean 2-day road freight and Dangerous Goods have been impacted and will take a number of days for full recovery and final-mile delivery.

We are moving freight via alternative routes and where possible via air.

Tuesday 7th July (4pm) - South Island SH1 Flooding Delays

Major flooding has closed State Highway 1 north and south of Kaikoura.

As a result, significant delays are expected for 2-day road freight moving through the affected area. Services into and out of Kaikoura are currently unavailable while road access remains closed.

Some freight is being moved via alternative routes where possible, however, delays may continue into tomorrow depending on road conditions and reopening timeframes.

Monday 29th June - New Plymouth Service Intermittent Delays (State Highway 3 Awakino Gorge)

Awakino Gorge roading is unstable and there have been ongoing closures and restrictions.

Minor delivery delays into/out of New Plymouth are likely to continue - full recovery seems unlikely in the short term.

Friday 6th March - Lower Hutt Depot remains closed for customer pick-up; drop-offs; cash sales

Storms in February resulted in considerable damage to our Lower Hutt premises. The reception area remains closed and will not be opened until all roofing iron is safely in place.

Our couriers are able to operate safely out of the depot area - courier pick-ups and deliveries resumed on 20 February.

If you do not have an account, but need to send an item (that a courier can pick-up from you)... please use our Send a Parcel service.

As at June 2026 work on the Gorge continues to create a 30-45 minute delay...

Monday 19th Jan - Slight delays into and out of Gisborne Region / Large slips in the Waioweka Gorge (SH2)

Large slips in the Waioweka Gorge (north of Gisborne) mean that inbound and outbound linehaul runs will need to be diverted (this may result in slight delays for courier items which would usually be moved via SH2 north of Gisborne).

It appears that it will be a number of weeks before this route is accessible.
